Wedding Dress Manufacturer Checklist: What to Ask Before You Choose

Wedding Dress Manufacturer Checklist: What to Ask Before You Choose

Choosing a wedding dress manufacturer is a long-term decision. These ten questions help you compare manufacturers on the points that matter most, and each one includes the answer we give at WEDDINGBOOK ATELIER.

1. Who actually makes the gowns?

Ask whether sampling, cutting, beading, and finishing happen in the manufacturer's own atelier or are subcontracted, and how orders above capacity are handled.

Our answer: Sampling, cutting, beading, and finishing all happen in-house at our own atelier. When an order exceeds the capacity of our in-house atelier, we may also work with partner facilities to keep operations and production stable.

2. What is the minimum per style, and what affects it?

Our answer: It depends on the style and the fabric. Small runs are welcome, and the minimum typically starts from a few pieces per style.

3. What do you need from me to start?

Our answer: For OEM, 2D pattern files and design specifications, or a physical sample that we can turn into a pattern. For ODM, an idea or mood references, and our design team prepares sketches or AI concept visuals for your review. It also helps to share fabric and lace direction, your size range, the quantity per style, and your target delivery date.

4. How long does sampling take, and what does a sample cost?

Our answer: About four weeks, and up to eight weeks depending on the fabric, lace, and handwork. The sample fee is calculated at two to three times the production unit price, depends on the fabric and manufacturing resources, and is confirmed in your quote. Samples are paid in full before work starts, and part of the fee is credited when you place a production order.

5. How long does production take, and what are the payment terms?

Our answer: Production typically takes about 30 days after sample approval. We ask for a 50% deposit to start, and the balance is due before shipment.

6. Can I use my own labels and packaging?

Our answer: Yes. We provide woven labels, care labels, hang tags, and garment bags under your own brand name.

7. How is my design protected?

Our answer: A standard NDA protects the confidentiality of your designs.

8. How is quality checked?

Our answer: Our QC benchmark is set by our Japanese bridal group partners, and Japan QC is applied to every order.

9. How is freight handled?

Our answer: We quote freight through our logistics partners. Our standard terms are FOB, and CIF or DDP are available depending on the order. If you have a designated forwarder, we work with them.

10. How quickly will you respond, and in which languages?

Our answer: We reply within one business day. Our team works in English, and a team member who speaks Japanese well handles Japanese buyers.
